¡Bienvenido a Los Estados Unidos!

Some would have you believe that all of the jobs being lost to illegal immigration are jobs that no Americans will do. The simple fact is that is not true. When day laborers go to construction sites to perform roofing work or paint houses, American carpenters and painters are put out of work. When illegal aliens do the gardening work at the local country club, there is a job that an American landscaper will not be able to do. As an American who spent a summer working on a landscaping crew, I can tell you without hesitation that Americans were happy to do the work to earn money. I know many carpenters would also likely state that they would be happy to have the roofing or general carpentry work that goes to illegal immigrants. It’s also not just landscaping or carpentry jobs. Recently, a company came under fire for “racial profiling” because they followed a Homeland Security directive to make sure that all of their employees were documented workers. When they found employees that were not here legally, they fired them. Now if you or I lied on a job application and were found out, we would be fired but the ACLU would not be there defending us.

Because these people lied about their citizenship, they had groups coming out of the woodwork to say they shouldn’t have been targeted in the first place. Why not? They were in fact breaking the law. Are our police supposed to suspend logic because they happen to be of a certain ethnicity? I.C.E. raids are not racist. They’re logical. If you’re looking for illegal immigrants, you’re not going to be as likely to find them with the Smith family as with the Rodriguez family. People may not like it but it is logical. Law enforcement should be logical. If a kid is walking around in gang clothes flashing gang signs in an area where gang shootings have occurred, he should be a likely suspect. If you don’t want to be harassed for looking like a thug, find a better fashion role model. If you don’t want to be harassed for being an illegal alien, go back to your own country. With the number of Mexican illegal immigrants in the United States estimated in the millions, they could all get together and go back to Mexico as one group and take over the country. The illegals complain about how bad it is over there, which drives them here. I say they should go back en masse and fix their own country!

While I do see some benefit to having cheap labor, I also see drawbacks. Whenever workers are paid under the table (without the standard taxes being taken out) the tax base in America shrinks. That would be fine if they didn’t ever send their kids to American schools or ever use the public healthcare services our nation has or if they never drove down the roads causing them to require repair. But they do all of the above even when they don’t pay taxes. Do I think we need to deport all of them? Not necessarily, but, one of the prerequisites for staying must be that they pay back taxes on their wages for the time they’ve been here and those taxes should include penalties just like yours or mine would if we didn’t pay taxes for years on end. Before you start handing me the sob story of how hard they work and how they make less money, remind yourself that they spit on American laws when they sneak into our country illegally and further spit on them when they don’t pay taxes. Do you know what can happen to an American for not paying taxes? We can go to jail. I’m just asking for back taxes. Aside from that, they should have to pay reparations for all the immigration dues that legal immigrants pay that they didn’t. I have to say, if I was a legal immigrant, I’d be pissed at the illegals. The legal immigrants have to go through months and sometimes years of work to come here legally while Mr. “Hop the Fence” gets to come in and start working and earning money within weeks and doesn’t have to pass the citizenship test to stay here. If anyone should be pissed at illegal immigration, it should be the legal immigrants to the U.S.

When looking at illegal immigration, you also have to take a look at the “anchor babies”. How is it that if an illegal alien is in America and has a baby that baby becomes a U.S. citizen? That has to be the biggest crock of all. Now all you need to do is come over here knocked up and as soon as you have the baby, you essentially have a sponsor for citizenship who is a United States citizen because the baby can’t be deported. Of course the baby needs a mommy and you wouldn’t want to break up the family so daddy should get to stay too. We need to change that law and soon! We need a law that requires at least one of the parents to be a citizen at the time of a baby’s birth for the baby to be a citizen. The bottom line is that the only people that have a “right” to be in the U.S. are the people that are here legally. If you didn’t come here legally, you are by definition an illegal alien. In post 9/11 America, you could also be considered an invader from a foreign land. Millions of people legally immigrate to the U.S. and they deserve all the rights and freedoms that they have worked hard to get. For the fence jumpers, river waders, tunnel crawlers and desert sneakers coming into the U.S., there should not be Constitutional debates. They aren’t citizens. They have ignored our laws and spit on the principles of due process. It’s not about racial hatred either. I don’t care if you sneak in from Mexico, Madrid, Baghdad or Bali. It doesn’t matter if your skin is brown, green, yellow or white. If you are not here legally, you don’t deserve my support or respect. My family came here legally, worked hard to build a life and paid taxes for generations so that I could legally call myself an American. Just crossing an expanse of dangerous terrain or surviving an ocean voyage in a cargo container is not enough to merit citizenship or the benefits of citizenship. If you want to be an American, you need to earn the right not steal it.

When we have Border Patrol agents in prison for shooting a drug smuggler in the butt during an attempted escape and then give that smuggler immunity to testify against the agents, the world has turned on its head and needs to be righted again. Not only was that man here illegally, he was smuggling drugs into the country! Too bad they didn’t aim higher than his butt! Maybe that would have given pause to the next drug runner bringing in a load but not now. While that same smuggler was under the protection of the Justice Department, he smuggled another load of drugs in and was not prosecuted for that either. Now the smuggler is suing the U.S. for five million dollars for the injury to his posterior. If he gets a friendly jury he’ll have been paid five million dollars by the U.S. government to smuggle drugs into the country not once but twice that we know of and to take two good law enforcement officers out of the forces defending our nation. That’s our tax dollars we’re talking about there. If he wins his lawsuit, more money than all of the taxes that I have worked to pay over the entire course of my life will be paid to him for illegally entering our nation and breaking our laws. While he lives it up on the taxes our hard work put into the coffers, men who spent their lives upholding the law will be in prison for a decade or more also at the taxpayers' expense. How can there be any justice in that?

Global Warming: Act Now Or Forever Rest In Peace

Global warming really isn't a partisan issue any more. Heck, not only do environmental issues no longer belong solely to the liberals, they’re not even just American issues anymore. The house is on fire and we're all busy standing around arguing about who owns the hose. Sure environmentally speaking, America is still an obese guy smoking a deep fried cigar in a bathtub of kerosene, but there are other countries holding barbeques in that same bathtub.

The problem isn't that we don't care. Oprah and Bono have gotten millions donated to the Clean Water for Africa project, but that's literally just a drop in the bucket. For every problem we address there are five that we don't even want to think about, and soon we won't have to because there won't be anything we can do about them. Once the brown cloud from China gets here, it's here. We won't be able to send it back. But that's ok, they’re entitled to earn a living too, right? Besides it won't do that much damage, we've already cut down most of the forests and paved over the meadows. Pollution just doesn't affect buildings the way it does trees.

I understand why we'd rather not deal with this issue at all. Everything the scientists are telling us is so overwhelming and gloomy that it's hard to absorb, and everything they're telling us to do would be so difficult. Nobody wants to walk to work, and have you tried public transportation lately? We wouldn't get home in time to vote on the next American Idol.

The truth is we won't do anything about it. We'll stay in our various air-conditioned compartments, only rolling down the windows for a moment at the drive through, until we can't go outside anymore, until we have to stay in filtered environments where the air is safe to breathe. On the bright side we won't have to worry about preservation anymore, and with all of the restrictions out of the way America will finally be able to compete again industrially with the rest of the world. And we will, and they will, until finally every last inch of soil is unfertile, every drop of water toxic and direct sunlight becomes lethal. Maybe then, we'll finally pause for a moment to wonder, why didn't somebody do something.

Have You Been Downsized Due to Outsourcing?

For several years now we have listened to some within the business community tell us that America can't compete on a global scale unless they send our jobs overseas where they can be done cheaper. The question becomes, if we don't have good paying jobs here, how can we sustain our own economy? We want to hear from you. Have you lost your job? Have you been forced into a lower wage job due to outsourcing? Has outsourcing been a success for you? Did you end up in a better job?

Tell us your story so we can make sure the politicians see how outsourcing really impacts the workers who are backbone of America. Send your story to stories@reform-america.net
